Everyone in a Filament account has one of three user types. Your user type sets what you can do across the account. Which dashboards and apps you can open is decided separately, by sharing.
- Admin: the people who run Filament for your organisation, like a founder, operations or finance lead, or agency director.
- Member: the people who work with the data every day, like fundraisers, marketers, program managers and analysts.
- Client: your agency’s clients, who want to see results and keep their app connections working without building anything. Only available in client accounts.

A few things the table can’t show:
- Admins don’t see every dashboard. They see one only if it’s shared with them, their user group, Admins or All members.
- Members can edit and share only the dashboards they have edit access to, and use the apps shared with them. New apps are shared with all members as view-only.
- Clients only ever view dashboards, even when one is shared with edit access. They can reconnect an expired Google or Stripe login without waiting on you, and upload files to apps that accept them.
- One admin is the Owner, usually whoever created the account. The Owner can’t be removed or have their user type changed. To hand over ownership, click Make owner on another admin’s row in Members. The previous Owner becomes an Admin.
User Groups
User groups give a team, like Fundraising or Finance, its own dashboards and apps. Share with the group once, and anyone added to it later gets the same access.
- Setting up. Admins create groups under Account › User groups and assign people from the Members list. Each person can be in one group at a time.
- Groups only add access. They never change what someone’s user type allows, and removing a group from a dashboard doesn’t affect access someone has through another share.
- Groups belong to one account. Groups in your agency account don’t carry into client accounts.
See Permissions for what groups can be given access to.
Agency and Client Accounts
On an agency plan, your team works in one agency account, and each client gets a separate client account with its own apps, data and dashboards. Create, switch between, pause and delete client accounts from Clients in the sidebar.
| In your agency account | In a client account | |
|---|---|---|
| Admin | Full access, plus an automatic Admin seat in every client | Usually your agency admins, added automatically |
| Member | Agency account only, until added to a specific client | Agency team members you’ve added to this client |
| Client | Not available | The people at your client’s business |
- Filly across clients. From the agency account, Owners and Admins can ask Filly about all of your clients’ data at once, like comparing ad spend by client. Agency Members can’t.
- Client users first. Client accounts can only invite Client users to start with. If your client’s own staff need to build dashboards and chat with Filly, contact us and we’ll turn on full users for that account.
- An Admin seat isn’t a master key. Inside a client account, agency admins still see only the dashboards shared with them, their user group, Admins or All members.
How People Move Between Agency and Client Accounts
Some changes happen automatically:
| When you… | What happens |
|---|---|
| Create a client account | Every agency admin joins it as an Admin. You become its Owner. |
| Promote someone to agency admin | They’re added as an Admin to every existing client account. |
| Demote or remove an agency admin | They leave the client accounts they were added to automatically. |
Others you do by hand, after switching into the client account:
- Add agency members. Go to Account and use the Agency members card to Add or Remove people from your team. They join as Members. Only agency admins see this card.
- Invite client users. Go to Account › Invitations, click Invite team member and choose Client. Invitations expire after 14 days.
- Adjust sharing defaults. New client accounts copy your agency’s Dashboard sharing defaults. Change them per client, or push your agency’s defaults to every client at once. See Permissions.
Where to Manage Users
Everything is under Account in the sidebar, on the Organization settings page. For a client account, switch into it first from Clients or the account switcher.
| Section | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Members | Change each person’s user type and user group, or remove them. The Owner also sees Make owner on admin rows. |
| Invitations | Invite people, copy invite links and revoke pending invites. |
| User groups | Create, rename and delete groups. Admins only. |
| Agency members | Add or remove people from your agency team. Client accounts only. |
